Kadyn’s First Birthday

Last Wednesday (March 25th), our sweet boy turned 1. It is truly crazy how quickly his first  year of life flew by. It feels like we were just leaving the NICU to bring him home a few months ago (I'll never forget the feeling I had when they told us we would finally be able to take him home -it was only 4 days, but it felt like an eternity in that moment). We have had the best year loving on our boy. It has been so fun to watch him learn new things and to see his little personality come out. Being his mama is my very favorite thing in life. I just love him SO much!

At 12 months Kadyn loves playing ball, "driving" his cars & tractors around the house, catching bubbles, getting into mama's cabinets, talking, and moving.  He is crawling everywhere and into everything. He is pulling up and walking around furniture, but hasn't taken off on his own yet. He can say mama, dada, bye-bye, and ball. His favorite foods are cheetos, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, maple & brown sugar oatmeal, strawberries, and bananas.

Kadyn dislikes nap time, sitting still for diaper changes, not getting his way, and is going through a phase lately where he isn't a big fan of baths either.

He weighs around 22 pounds and is about 31 inches long. We have been breastfeeding for one year and are still going strong. I had always planned to stop at 1 year, just because I thought that's when I would be ready (I'm not and I don't think he is either). Since I am no longer having to pump and am home with him daily we are going to keep going a little longer.

Kadyn's 1st Birthday party was originally scheduled for last weekend, but had to cancel it due to everything going on right now. We tried to make his day as special as we could since we weren't able to throw him the party we planned. We still plan to have his big party, we will just have to wait until all this is over.

Here's a little look at Kadyn's 1st Birthday...
I apologize in advance for the picture overload :)

I was up early blowing up balloons and getting some things ready for the birthday boy. He was so excited when he woke up and saw all the balloons in our kitchen. He had the best time playing with them that morning.

I made him a birthday cake, and spent a little time on Wednesday morning making some homemade icing. After his morning nap we got him ready and decorated the house a bit. Although we weren't having a big party, we did have a few visitors who stopped by that afternoon to see Kadyn.

I had planned the cutest dinosaur themed party for him, and wasn't going to let all the cute decor I ordered go to waste. He wore the hat for about 10 seconds before he pulled it off, but at least we got a cute picture.

Sweet boy was excited to have some visitors. His Aunt Hollie, Uncle Tyler, Cousin Walker, and Grammy all came to see him eat his cake and spend some time with him.

Just a few pictures with mom and dad before cake time...

We love this boy so much!

Time for cake! He wasn't quite sure what to do with it.

Mama trying to get him to take a bite.

He finally decided he would see what all the fuss was about.

He was more interested in the dinosaur topper than the actual cake.

He had fun playing in it, but I'm not sure that he actually ate any.

He was over it after about 5 minutes.

I had to pull out a few of the decorations that I didn't get to use at his party. The little chalkboard print is my favorite.

After cake we had fun playing with Walker.

Then we took a little trip to the park. This boy LOVES to swing!

We had the best day with our sweet birthday boy! Although his 1st birthday wasn't like I always imagined it would be, I'm so thankful for the day we had as a family. Chase and I would have both been working on his actual birthday, but ended up getting to spend the day together.
